My Designs Come to Life

         My name is AnnMarie, a.k.a. Anny B., for those of you who know me well. I love fashion. Even though it's not necessarily my primary career goal for my future anymore, I will always love it. That's why I consider my education at the High School of Fashion Industries (at which I am a junior) absolutely priceless and something that I will enjoy while I'm going through it and appreciate long after. Although fashion design is one of my passions, I find sketching out my ideas somewhat frustrating because of my lack of artistic ability [cough, cough, lol]. So although it is so satisfying to see my ideas on paper, it is even more fulfilling to see them in my hands, or on a figure. So for now, at least, draping, pattern-making, and garment construction are my favorite parts of the trade.

Of the above drapes, we actually constructed the cowl top, peg skirt, and then a drape of our choice for wear. I chose my halter bubble dress to make because I thought it was a great summer pick and I was very proud of my draped design. That's the beauty of this class: we got to add our own variations to the drapes and spice them up with our own flavor. Not only did this motivate us further in doing the work and make it more fun, but it also transformed basic patterns into clothing we were inspired to make for ourselves. I loved the creativity and the virtually endless possibilities of draping; whatever you have in your head that you want to make for a human form, as long as you have style tape and muslin, you can make it real. I hope you enjoy perusing my portfolio as much as I enjoy showcasing it.
